Iron Strong CrossFit coaches are making waves in the CrossFit community by qualifying to various stages of the CrossFit Games process. The 1st stage of the CrossFit Games the Open, which is a worldwide, 5 week online competition. Every week a new workout was released on Thursday night and athletes had until Monday evening to perform the workout and post their scores to an online leaderboard. There are various divisions in the Open, including, but not limited to Individuals, Teens, Masters, and Team, as well as different regions based upon geographical location. At the end of the 5 weeks, to qualify to the next stage of the Individual competition, “Regionals”, athletes must place in the top 20 in their Region. To qualify to the next stage of the Masters competition, the “Games Online Qualifier”, athletes must place in the top 200 in the world on the Open Leaderboard!
With her performance in the Open, Lisa Marquette (Iron Strong owner and coach), placed 3nd in the state of Maryland, but most importantly, placed in the top 20 as an individual for the Mid Atlantic Region and 27th in the world in the Master’s 35-39 year old Division! Her stellar performance qualified her for both the Individual Regional Competition, as well as the Master Online Qualifier, which is no easy task! Coach Steve Twilley proved himself to be the 5th fittest Firefighter in the Mid Atlantic region, and also qualified for the Master’s Online Qualifier by placing 194th worldwide in the Master’s 35-39 year old Division! Kim Rogers (coach) also qualified to the Master’s Online Qualifier in the Master’s 45 -49 year old Division by placing 12th in the world!
So, what’s next for these extremely fit athletes?!?! Lisa, Steve, and Kim are in the middle of competing in the Master’s Online Qualifier, which consists of 4 workouts that were released on Thursday, April 20. They have until Monday, April 24th to complete all 4 workouts and post their scores to the Online Leaderboard. The top 20 in each Masters Division WORLDWIDE will qualify to the CrossFit Games, held in Madison, Wi August 3-6, 2017! Also, since Lisa qualified for the Individual Regional Competition, she will also compete at the Atlantic Regionals in Atlanta, Ga June 2 – 4, 2017. If she places in the top 5, she will qualify to the CrossFit Games!
